Allianz Cancer Protect in Singapore: who is eligible, what it pays and what is excluded

By Charles Ong · November 2026

Allianz Cancer Protect is a yearly renewable cancer insurance plan sold in Singapore by Allianz Insurance Singapore Pte. Ltd. It pays a lump sum when cancer is diagnosed, whichever hospital you use and whatever treatment you choose, plus 12 months of income after a major cancer diagnosis. This guide answers the questions clients ask most, taken from the policy wording and Allianz's factsheet.

The short answer
  • Who can buy it: Singapore Citizens, PRs and foreigners holding a valid Singapore pass, aged 18 to 65 for a new policy, plus their children from 30 days old.
  • What it pays: up to $100,000 for major cancer, up to $20,000 for early-stage cancer, and up to $3,500 a month for 12 months.
  • When cover starts: after a 90-day waiting period from the start of the policy.
  • Not covered: cancer you already had, or had signs of, before the policy started.
  • No medical check-up: Allianz asks 2 to 3 health questions when you apply.

Who is eligible for Allianz Cancer Protect?

Each person insured must meet two conditions. First, they must hold a valid Singapore identification document. The policy wording names the Singapore NRIC, Employment Pass, Work Permit, Long Term Visit Pass, Student Pass and Dependant's Pass, and also accepts other recognised passes that allow the holder to stay in Singapore. This means expatriates and their families can apply, not only Singaporeans.

Second, they must fall within the age limits. Ages are taken as at your last birthday.

Age limits at a glance
18 to 65
Adults applying for a new policy
Up to 79
Adults renewing an existing policy. Cover ends at the renewal on or after the 80th birthday.
30 days to 18
Children, or up to 24 if a full-time student

Can I cover my children?

Yes. A child can be your biological, legally adopted or step child, aged at least 30 days, unmarried and financially dependent on you. Children are covered up to age 18, or up to 24 if registered as a full-time student at a school, polytechnic, university or similar institution. Their cover ends at the renewal on or after their 19th birthday, or their 25th birthday for full-time students. At that point they can apply for their own policy as an adult.

How much does it pay?

There are three plans. All benefits are paid as lump sums to the policyholder, so you decide how to use the money: treatment, a second opinion overseas, household bills or time off work.

Benefits by plan
BenefitSilverGoldPlatinum
Major Cancer Benefit$50,000$75,000$100,000
Non Invasive Cancer Benefit (once per lifetime)$10,000$15,000$20,000
Monthly Income Benefit (12 months, after major cancer)$1,500$2,500$3,500
Source: Allianz Cancer Protect factsheet (June 2025). Any Non Invasive Cancer Benefit already paid is deducted from the Major Cancer Benefit.

Example: an early cancer, then a major cancer

Allianz's own example: Mr Tan buys the Platinum plan at 30. At 40 he is diagnosed with a non invasive cancer and receives $20,000. At 50 he is diagnosed with a major cancer. He receives the $100,000 Major Cancer Benefit less the $20,000 already paid, plus $3,500 a month for 12 months. The policy then ends for him.

What Mr Tan receives in total
Age 40: Non Invasive Cancer Benefit
$20,000
Age 50: Major Cancer Benefit ($100,000 less $20,000)
$80,000
Age 50: Monthly Income Benefit ($3,500 x 12)
$42,000
Total paid: $142,000

Which early-stage cancers are covered?

The Non Invasive Cancer Benefit covers carcinoma in situ and these early cancers as defined in the policy: early prostate cancer (T1a or T1b), early thyroid cancer (T1N0M0, or papillary microcarcinoma under 1cm), early bladder cancer (papillary microcarcinoma), early chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (RAI stage 1 or 2) and early melanoma. Diagnosis must be confirmed by a biopsy and pathology report.

Some pre-cancerous conditions are specifically not covered, including cervical dysplasia (CIN-1 to CIN-3), prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia and vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia.

When does cover start, and what are the time limits?

Three time limits to know
  1. 90 daysWaiting period from the policy start. Cancer diagnosed, or with signs or symptoms first appearing, in this period is not covered.
  2. 14 daysThe insured person must survive 14 days after the date of diagnosis for the benefit to be payable.
  3. 30 daysNotify Allianz in writing within 30 days of the date of diagnosis.
The 90-day waiting period applies from the First Effective Date and does not restart when the policy renews.

What is not covered?

No benefit is paid for cancer caused by a pre-existing condition, meaning anything diagnosed, showing symptoms, treated or known to you before the policy started. The policy also excludes cancer caused by self-inflicted injury, by alcohol or drugs not prescribed by a doctor, and by HIV or AIDS, except HIV acquired through a blood transfusion, assault, organ transplant or at work. Cancers found only through blood, saliva or other body fluid tests, without further definitive evidence, do not meet the definition of major cancer.

How much does it cost?

Premiums depend on your age band, gender and plan. As an example from Allianz's factsheet, at age 31 to 35 the Silver plan costs $13.55 a month for a man and $19.25 a month for a woman, including GST. You can pay monthly or yearly. Premiums rise when you move into the next age band and are not guaranteed, so Allianz can revise them at renewal.

What to watch out for

  • Buy while you are well. Pre-existing conditions are excluded and there is a 90-day waiting period, so cover bought after symptoms appear will not help.
  • Answer the health questions fully. Under the Insurance Act you must disclose what you know. If you do not, Allianz can void the policy and decline claims.
  • Monthly payers: the rest of the year's premium is due. If a Major Cancer Benefit becomes payable and you pay monthly, the remaining premium for that policy year must be paid before the benefit is released.
  • Pay within the grace period. You have up to 30 days after the due date. After that the policy ends, and a new policy would mean a new waiting period.
  • Major cancer is paid once. After the Major Cancer Benefit is paid, cover for that person ends.

Frequently asked questions

Can foreigners in Singapore buy Allianz Cancer Protect?

Yes, if they hold a valid Singapore pass such as an Employment Pass, Work Permit, Dependant's Pass, Student Pass or Long Term Visit Pass, and meet the age limits.

What is the maximum entry age?

65 for a new adult policy. An existing policy can be renewed up to age 79.

Do I need a medical check-up?

No. Allianz asks 2 to 3 health questions when you apply.

Does it replace my Integrated Shield plan?

No. A Shield plan pays hospital bills. Cancer Protect pays a fixed lump sum on diagnosis, whatever the bills are, so the two do different jobs. The policy wording does not reduce the payout because you have other insurance.

Can I cancel if I change my mind?

Yes. You have 14 days after receiving the policy to cancel for a full refund, provided no claim has been made.

Is the policy protected if Allianz fails?

The policy is protected under the Policy Owners' Protection Scheme administered by the Singapore Deposit Insurance Corporation (SDIC), within the scheme's limits.
